First week of 2D drawings!
|
The start of the 2D graphics course was really exciting and something I have been looking forward to. We jumped into the drawing and theories right away. This was a bit terrifying since I lack experience with 2D drawings, but we learned some really valuable concepts and theories which helped a lot. The principles and components I used for the drawings were those taught to us by Pernilla. These included the loose sketching of the model to try and capture the gesture and the essence of the pose the model was in. Then we used those lines as guidelines to divide the body into cylinders and different shapes. This was to get a clearer vision of the shapes of the body.
Walt Stanchfield talked about capturing the attitude of the gesture in his book “Drawn to Life: 20 Golden Years of Disney Master Classes: Volume 1: The Walt Stanchfield Lectures”. This was something I had the most trouble with, when drawing. Pernilla had taught us to be loose while sketching to capture the attitude, but I had a hard time getting it to feel right. I suspect it to be from (a part from not being used to draw in 2D, let alone the human body) trying to get every line just perfect at the first try. I have never thought of to draw several passes of a drawing, increase the details with each pass. So I think that I will have to get the notion of perfection from the start out of my head and realize that drawing is a process with several steps. Once I realize this, I will be able to get a sense of life and motion in my drawings. I will now have to just keep at it, draw something every day and also continue with reading the Vilppu Drawing Manual.
