I started to play and ended up finishing Bioshock: Infinite yester day. We got teh assignment to play the game the analyze the story and determ if it was a three act story or a nine act story. To me it was clear that it was a nine act story because it follows the principles of the nine act story almost religiously (hint to the game intended)
But more on the assignment in my assignment! I’ve played the game before and absolutely hated every single part of the gameplay it was only the story that actually carried the game. However on my second playthrough in which I speedrunned it I realized that the gameplay is streamlined to be more action oriented than the typical search and explore game play you find in systemshock and the previous bioshock games. I did feel a bit tossed around from point A to B but this was a story about escape and revolution. There are no tranquil segments in a revolution! So I actually ended up liking the game a bit more on my second playthrough but I still think it’s a gloryfied corridor shooter. Gonna see if I can find the image I saw the other day..Okay didn’t find the right one but this one proves my point. there is absolutely no exploration at all in this game! Not compared to it’s predecessors at least.
See it’s absolutely in terms of level design, it leads a player straight to the object and doesn’t allow for any detours. It’s almost that they didn’t have any valuable item to make the player want to explore and then decided to remove the whole concept of it.
Well I’m off writing on the assignment!
